From A for AGF Videoforschung to Z for zapping, the most important technical terms in video research are explained here.
Viewing participation
Viewing participation is the average use of the analysis element. It is calculated individually for each person as a share of viewing duration relative to the duration of the analysis element. Calculating the average viewing participation of an analysis element with more than just one part or multiple analysis elements of different length is permitted only when including the length weighting. The addition of viewing participation should be marked as “contact total”.
The calculation is referred to as (cumulative) net viewing participation in cumulative counts and other special analyses.
